Mathew Schwartz
Mathew Schwartz is a freelance writer, editor and photographer based in Paris. He also has extensive experience creating and running online communities. He has recently worked with such organizations as Intel, Fortune, Computerworld, Cambridge College, and Information Security magazine. As a journalist, Mathew Schwartz was a senior editor at Computerworld Magazine (1999-2001), a business and information technology weekly magazine with a circulation of 350,000. He authored feature stories for the technology and business sections of the magazine, contributed online news, Q&A's, reported on various industry conferences, and helped create, strategize and then write for the magazine's online communities, including a regular column on personal technology and gadgets. He has appeared on Fox-25 News at 10 (Boston) segments to talk about technology. His article "Building a Better Laser" in the May 29, 2000, issue of the magazine was one of three articles in Computerworld's nascent Future Watch feature, focusing on future technology, that won a "Best Department" award for the magazine from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE). Prior to Computerworld, he wrote for Cambridge Information Network (see below) as well as publications such as Software Magazine, Client/Server Computing, and the Year 2000 Survival Guide. As an online community creator and editor, Mathew Schwartz helped establish Computerworld's communities. Before that, he wrote research reports and created content for CIN, a.k.a. Cambridge Information Network (1999), a restricted, members-only community for 3500 CIOs around the world, which was then owned by Cambridge Technology Partners in Cambridge, Mass. Prior to CIN, he was the sixth employee at theglobe.com (1995-96), an online community started in Ithaca, NY, which later moved to New York City. He was the site's editor-in-chief, creating distinct content and helping augment its online discussion forums. As a photographer, Mathew Schwartz has over a decade of professional experience in black & white and color photography. He also contributed photographs to Computerworld Magazine and its Web site. His current professional work focuses on portraiture, including author photographs, and night-time photography. Mathew Schwartz studied English literature, critical theory and Spanish literature, earning his B.A. with honors from Cornell University in 1995 and his M.A. from the University of Buffalo (SUNY-Buffalo) in 1997. He also spent an undergraduate year studying English and Spanish literature at Trinity College, University of Dublin, Ireland. |
